Total Networks so far: ~1,600

Sadly I didn’t get my new antennas that I ordered last week. Would have been fun to use a 14 dB yagi around the hotel. :> Also ordered new connections and adapters for my current antenna since the cable connectors are having.. issues.

We look at houses around Philly tomorrow, so we’ll see how many networks I pick up around there.

Also: Kismet + 800 networks + scrolling = massive lag.

More later!

1,207 networks collected today.

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

Me and my family went on a short road trip to see Midieval Times. It was ok. Food was meh. Actors were sorta/sorta. Voices were good. Staff was nice. Effects were awsome yet overused. Animal treatment I haven’t a clue but it didn’t seem well.

Anyway.. On the way I collected 1.2 thousand networks. I just uploaded the dump to WiGLE.net and it seems I’ve discovered 440 new nets not yet in their database. 9,455 signal & positions logged. That was a really successful run.

Anyway.. If I get my dad to drive me around a bit in residental areas, I’m sure I’ll get a ton just doing that. I could ride a bike too, but I don’t know if I’d get one. :P

Anyway.. That’s it. Bye.

330 Networks within 10 miles

Sunday, March 19th, 2006

Within 10 miles of my house, I’ve found 330 access points. :D That’s amazing! There’s huge networks out in the buisness sector on my road, consisting of 30 or more APs. I also picked up a GPS for $90 [came with Microsoft Streets and Trips] so I’ve been tracking their positions today too. I’ve only positioned 70 today however, my wifi tracker program can triangulate the positions of networks, which is kinda cool but also not that accurate, heh.

Anyway.. I’ll put up my results somewheres.. Pretty cool stuff. Although at the moment this can be revealing too much about me, so I may take off positions. I donno. Heh.

330 APs ^.^

Update

I’ve posted my logs on WiGLE. You can view the map. I’ve discovered 276 new networks on WiGLE, and have loged 37 new networks with gps [booooo...]. I’ve collected all the nets along sudley road, at least the West end of it. If nothing is showing up, then the maps haven’t updated yet, they probally update nightly, so check back tomarrow. I know the site design is horrid, but it’s functional anyways right? Heh. They have 5 million+ networks on there, so I thought it would be a good spot to post my logs. :) I’ll go out some more when my dad gets home, hehe.

WarWalking - School

Friday, March 17th, 2006

I decided to keep a log of my WarWalking/Driving activities. Generally that means going around logging all the wifi networks you pass. I’m using my laptop with Network Stumbler. After each run I’ll write a nice log of activity.

At my school we have people setting up wireless routers, without permission. I decided to go and figure out where they are, based purely on passing by certin hallways and tracking my time. Today I’ve found two. One is a actual router, another is just a open laptop. I still have one more run I can do.

Anyway.. Log for today, so far.

2E333C59CA9 - First tracked 3/17/06, appears to be in upstairs hallway, near centeral stairs. Ad-hoc, possibly home laptop. Tracked between periods 1-3, and 3-5. ["linksys"]
000625A9660 - First tracked 3/17/06, appears to be in tech hall. ["linksys"]

3/17/06
1-3 Tracking route, from 1st period, through tech hall [3rd] to special ed hall [b] and continue through english hallway [b]. Up stairs and follow hallway [f] down to furthest corner, then right turn and down hallway [2nd] past centeral stairs to other corner [h] to period 3.
Detected 000625A9660 [8:31:19] and 2E333C59CA9 [8:33:29].

3-5 Down hallway [h] from period 3, took right at end [1], took next right down middle hallway upstairs [g], down centeral stairs, through hallway C [english hallway], took left [1st], next left at hallway d, down 2nd, turn right into B into 2nd period.
Detected no new networks, detected previous detected network 2E333C59CA9 [10:13:46].

5-7 Into B hall, down to 3rd, up 3rd to A, down A to 1st, down 1st to stairwell on E, up stairwell to 1st to G, to period 7 class.
[planned]

Yar. I’m done. Update later, and also write about the bus trip too which’ll be more expansive then this.
