Mick on Patents, Ecco, Furry, Park

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

-Mick on patents moved to comments, since I just wanted to rant and ate it later.-

Ecco the Dolphin! That game rocked. I decided to take on the alias Ecco for roleplays and other junk, as I suck at names anyways. Ecco fits right? It doesn’t seem too popular of a nickname either, surprisingly. So anyways, I’ll probally appear as Ecco on some forums and chatrooms from now on, even thinking of using it as my main alias, keeping micksam7 of course. You guys can call me whatever ya like, unlike some people I don’t like to ditch old aliases. micksam7.com will still be registered, and so will dadolphin.com - just I’ll add one for ecco too since I like it so. So therefore I am Ecco the [other] dolphin! Ecco the brown [anthro] bottlenose dolphin! Hey it also makes a much cooler alias for releasing music and junk too.

Oh by the way, it’s offical, Mick’s a furry. Well not all the time, but I’ve been interested in Furrism for a bit, so I shall start introducing myself to the furry scene sometime soon, starting with some art. Been sketching and junk, just need a scanner!!

Oh and developement around my house is increasing. The local park, James Long Park, which has a library and feilds used for soccer and all, seems to have given half their land to developement. I’m not sure if it’s for them, but the size of the site appears to be more of the size of a housing developement. I can only hope it’s for a school, or maybe a full sports feild instead, but bleh. The park is one of the last un-developed areas that appear just to be a outdoorsy place and older relaxed times, but all this new developement around here, town houses, compact nehiboorhoods, is getting rather annoying. The house I’m in was built 20 years ago on a acre lot, surrounded by trees and is overally more of the community I’m used too. I suppose I don’t like the change… that and I can’t use the “It’s too far away!” excuse anymore. Darn new shopping center.

Anyways, end of the really long blog entry [until I took out the patent part]. Bye.

Wait! I’ll fix it..

Christmas list!

Mick’s Christmas List: [modified from the version I'm gonna give to my parents and all]

— Really wanted items / Laptop upgrade & repair —

My laptop has gotten fairly banged up despite only having it a bit over a year. I’m not expecting nor wanting a new one for a while [2-3 years more at least]. So to keep it going, I wanted to get a few things, including a new keyboard since I broke a key. It’s still good, just needs a few repairs!

DDR1 333 [PC 2700 speed] SO-DIMM [laptop-sized memory] at least 512 MBs [to speed up my laptop]
- For my laptop. It’s still a good laptop, though it’s sluggish at times because of lack of memory [which requires stuff having to be stored on the hard drive when the main memory is used up, which can make things really slow when working on a lot of stuff at once] - That and adobe production studio refuses to install on my laptop due to it’s lack of memory.

60-80 GB hard drive ATA-6 2.5″ [compact laptop hard drive, perferably seagate]
- I managed to drop and semi-damage my laptop hard drive. Plus I’ve been wanting a bigger one anyways. A more hardy drive that will last a while would be appreciated.

Inspiron 2200 Keyboard
- I broke a key off mine, plus it’s filled with hair and all sorts of other stuff, which is really hard to remove. A quick search found a new one.

— For my Computer —

I like my office computer. I just want a few things to help in there.

Multimedia Keyboard - USB or PS/2 [or both!]
- I want a new keyboard because at the moment I’m using a keyboard ment for a playstation, I purchased a new one but it came with the v and 1 keys broken [was cheap, $5, and wasn't worth shipping back]. I’ve been wanting to get a decent keyboard with volume control and maybe even media player controls on it. There are plenty around for fairly cheap. I don’t really want a wireless one because it would require changing batteries often and all, that and I’m a little paranoid with people getting passwords and all off the air, though it may be low-range and all that. Anyways..

Good optical wireless mouse
- The wire gets annoying on my mouse when playing online games where you needa be fast. I just have to hope the batteries don’t die while I’m playing. I picked out this microsoft one that has a 4-way scroll wheel, which you can press to the side to scroll sideways instead of just up and down with it easily. Also it’s blue!

17″ DVI LCD Monitor
- I’d like a flatscreen monitor to match the one I currently have. On my desktop I really like to multi-task with multiple monitors. Before we moved I had two monitors, but one broke on the move and haven’t used a dual-monitor setup since. I don’t really know how to explain the advantage with dual-monitors, I guess it’s a geek thing. Just makes it really easy to multi-task without having to change windows all the time, just move the mouse over to the other monitor! Yes my video card already supports two monitors. The link below is to my existing monitor, which I love, and was really cheap, compared to other monitors anyway.

— Printer & Scanner! —

I’ve been wanting a new printer and scanner, but haven’t found one that interests me nor seems to hold up to the quality our Canon printers that we’ve had.

SAMSUNG CLP 300 Color Laser Printer
- Color laser printers are naturally expencive. The one at my school costs way over $1000. They are faster, much higher quality, and look almost like photographs without the need for photopaper, compared to regular ink printers. The problem is always price. I found a really nice, and cheap, one by Samsung. It’s still fairly expencive compared to other ink-jet printers, but I feel it’s worth it, the results from color laser printers are amazing with photographs and other graphics, and much faster. The toner is fairly expencive, but can do almost 1000 pages before needing to be replaced, so cheaper then ink-jet printers too. I’ll make sure I set it up as a network printer this time, though people will still need to go to my office to retreave the pages.

Scanner
- There are plenty of cheap scanners out there, but most of them are, cheap. I’ve been thinking of going into graphical art, as it kinda merges my interests together, dolphins computers and art itself. My newer interest in art is a long story, but it’s starting to seem more and more logical to me. Anyways, this scanner can scan directly from film, slides, and other things, while still getting great results on photos and stuff like that.

If none of the above two, then a good multi-function printer
- If you don’t want to get either of those items above, well we do need a printer and scanner still. That HP one you got sam is great, but I still like Canon, just sucks when one part breaks after 3 years of use and it isn’t made anymore. So here is a canon multi-function printer around the same price:

I’m not expecting all of that, or any really. I’d like some money to purchase some things though. Heh.
